FOR TOMPKINS COUNTY APPLICANTS: APPLYING FOR A GRANT
While we may not be able to fund every request from local non-profits, each request will be thoroughly reviewed. We hope these guidelines will be helpful to our local non-profits in applying.
- We define "local" as Tompkins County.
- Most compelling are requests that serve areas of critical need in our county.
- Short-term operating support may be considered; please be specific about how this will help the agency fulfill its mission.
- Grantmaking cycles are quarterly (March, June, September, December). Deadlines for completed applications are Jan 4, April 2 July 2, and October 1.
What we look for:
- A carefully thought-out plan providing specific details about the need, project activities, benefit of the service, etc.
- A plan for sustainability if it is an ongoing project. Grants are typically for one year; a renewal might be considered, but the Foundation will not ordinarily provide long-term, ongoing support.
- Support from other sources. The Foundation cannot be the sole (or even primary) funder.
- Proof of tax-exempt status from the IRS.
